In Mexican literature, the presence of Verhaeren is discovered only in the early decades of the twentieth century and then it vanishes gradually as this century moves on. Despite this, the writings referring to the poet and having been written after his death are delivered with such ardor and such passion that they alone are sufficient to defend his work. That said, either through translations or by the evocation of the poet, the footprint and defense of Verhaeren are undeniable. In order to outline this presence, we will approach the writers of the "Ateneo de la Juventud [Atheneum of Youth]" because of their crucial role in the development of the intellectual panorama, then we will adopt -as much as possible- a chronological order to illustrate the place that Verhaeren has occupied in Mexican literature.
