This research presents an On-Board Charger (OBC) design based on SiC technology for electric-vehicle applications. Due to the capability of high-speed switching of SiC MOSFETs, SiC-based OBC has the ability to achieve high power density and lightweight. In this research, soft-switching techniques with zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) and zero-current-switching (ZCS) are adopted for DC-DC stage to increase the overall efficiency of the SiC-based OBC. An 11 kW SiC-based OBC has been designed and verified by simulation at different switching frequencies (i.e. 250 kHz, 500 kHz), expected efficiency of 96% and power density of 30W/in3.
