SINS is a strategic basic research project that has as a target to drastically improve both lifetime and performance of the state-of-the-art of sensing swarms, with a focus on acoustic sensing. The SINS performance and lifetime objectives are to achieve high-resolution acoustic activity detection and beyond 1-meter accurate acoustic localization, while achieving above 1-year lifetime of the swarm on 1 button cell battery. The gains will be validated and quantified through a clear and convincing novel ambient assisted living showcase, enabled through the envisioned acoustic swarm.
