Description

In this application, we propose policy preparatory research, specifically around the leadership-related needs that are strongest among our academic staff. This focus is justified by the special challenges posed by the academic context and the comparatively scarce scientific knowledge available on leadership in the academic context. In addition, it quickly becomes clear that the term “leadership” covers a multitude of loads that may relate to skills and their appreciation, that is to say, responsibilities, roles and structures intrinsically linked to the hierarchical line. It will therefore be important to facilitate policy preparation research that takes into account the stratification of the topic and maintains the overall overview. Finally, it will also be crucial to gain a more concrete understanding of what “appropriate” leadership, in all its complexity, means within the daily reality of our university. With the proposed research, we want to facilitate the development of a vision on leadership in line with the values that we highly value as a VUB, and policies that create the context in which the leadership we desire also has the opportunity to grow. / thrive. We must pay attention to creating a dynamic in which employees can be empowered according to their abilities.
