The goal of the project is the development of an extendable catalogue of compatible structural components that will enable the designer/builder to construct, in a fast and simple way, temporary, completely demountable membrane constructions. In the field of membrane construction the use of modular and prefabricated components is already very common. Up to now we use "units" (modular systems consist of small independent tents that are placed together) and form and function related structures (completely demountable constructions usually have the same form and function each time they are built). The project presented here wants to study the idea in depth to come to the development of a generating system for (temporary) membrane constructions: a system that generates the membranes as well as the supporting structure because these two parts of the construction interact to ensure the stability of the whole. First forms, combination-concepts and linking-methodes will be studied in an abstract way. Next the study will be executed by means of models and numerical simulations (programs like Easy and Memform). Important aspects are the study of the forms, the interaction of the forces and the compatibility rules to enable the same components to be used in different configurations. The methodology to represent the different components and to simulate the construction of altenative compositions will be elaborated (Easyer, Easy or other tools).
